Getting Ready for Your First Deep Clean: A Practical Checklist

Start with the clutter

Every house has some clutter, and a Green House Cleaning Services crew does not expect yours to be empty. Perfect should never be the enemy of good. Still, whatever sits on a counter, a floor, or a staircase is something the crew has to move, sort, or work around, and that time comes out of your hours.

Stack the mail in a basket, pick up shoes and toys, clear the bathroom counter. Every surface you free up is a surface that gets cleaned instead of skipped. Since a first deep clean is billed by the labor hour, time spent moving piles is time not spent on baseboards and shower tile.

The kitchen deserves a quick look the night before. Run the dishwasher, empty the sink, and clear the stovetop. A sink full of dishes cannot be scrubbed and polished, and a crowded stove hides the grease the crew most wants to reach. Dirty laundry on bedroom floors is the same story, since a vacuum cannot get under a pile.

Put valuables and breakables away

Green House is licensed and insured and its people are bonded, and the crews are trained to be careful with whatever they find. Even so, nobody can prevent every accident. The best practice before any outside contractor comes into your home is to put away jewelry, cash, small electronics, and fragile sentimental items. It protects your things and keeps any question from coming up later.

Leave a list

Crews do the basics in every home: dusting, vacuuming, mopping, and cleaning the kitchen and bathrooms. A note on the counter tells them what you care about beyond that. Maybe it is the glass shower door, the hall baseboards, or the guest room that has not been touched since summer.

A list matters most when the crew is new to your home. If something was missed last time, put it on the list, or call the office. The company says plainly that it would rather hear about a miss and fix it on the next visit than have you stay quiet and unhappy.

Make sure the crew can get in, and open the doors you want done

If you will be out, leave a way in: a code, a key with a neighbor, or whatever you arrange with the office. A crew that drives across Kingsport, parks, unloads equipment, and finds a locked door has just lost a chunk of the day for everyone.

Closets work the same way. If you want the floors of a closet vacuumed or mopped, leave the door open. The crew respects your privacy and will not open a closed door unless you ask.

Pets deserve a plan too. It is generally best to keep them, especially dogs that might bite, in a locked room or a crate so the crew can work safely. An open door and a loud vacuum is also how a nervous pet ends up outside. Talk it over with the office and your cleaner if you are unsure.

What the crew will not do

  • Climb ladders or clean tilt windows, because of liability.
  • Wipe down TV screens, for the same reason.
  • Clean inside the oven or refrigerator on a regular visit. Both can be added on request.

Easily reached windows still get their ledges wiped and the glass spot cleaned. Thorough inside glass cleaning is an extra service you can ask about.

If you want the inside of the oven done and it has a self-clean cycle, run it sometime before the crew arrives. The cycle turns baked-on residue into ash that wipes out easily. Open a window while it runs, and let the oven cool completely before anyone reaches in.

What to expect on the day

An initial deep clean usually runs 8 hours up to 14 or more when buildup is heavy, and crews of two to four people are common. Expect the work to follow the usual order: dust high, then vacuum and mop low, with kitchens and bathrooms getting extra attention. Floors come last so nobody walks over them.

Green House is honest that cleaning is a process. Do not expect every ounce of dirt to be gone in a few hours or never to see a missed spot. Tell the crew what they missed, and they will get it next time. If you are home, your crew leader gives you the total at the end. Otherwise an invoice comes by text or email.

Homes in Bristol, Johnson City, Elizabethton, Jonesborough, Piney Flats, and Abingdon all get the same treatment. For an estimate range before you book, call (423) 340-4016.
